Here is a poem by a fellow 7th grader!

SOMALIA
It truly annoys me when
People talk of my country
Like they know it then
The truth is that you don’t
And if you really wanted to
The fact is that you won’t
Know it better than me
Cause I have the connection
With my own country

Through the hardships and the war
Still we adore
The peace and our culture
That is now no more
I know it’s not perfect
I don’t wanna hear it twice
And if you think you’re better than me
You’d better think twice
Because I’m the last to say
My country’s not OK
And if it were that bad
It wouldn’t be here today

So what do you know about the pirates?
Why do you think that they’re bad?
Well let me tell you something
That you might think is just sad
They took it too far
Now becoming pirates
Though before
All they were
Were tyrants
They tried to protect our oceans
From the nuclear toxic waste
That others thought that dumping it in Somalia was OK

But now my people face war
That they cannot leave
And a troublesome life
That you will never see
Becoming immigrants and refugees
Is something you won’t be

The thing that I love most
Is something no one knows
But I have a passion
A motivation you don’t see
I would like to strive
For my own country
We Somalis are tough
We would never give up
No matter what we go through
We try to live it up

So before you talk to me
About my own country
I would have second thoughts
About what you’d say to me

Author Ifrah (Left) wrote this poem about Somalia called "Somalia"

I chose to put this poem on my blog because I think it's honestly incredible. I loved the way that Ifrah made things rhyme so that when it's read the rhyming feels completely natural, not at all forced, and really helps the poem flow rather than hindering it. My favorite part of the poem was the fact that she really knew what she was talking about, and you could tell she was very passionate about her topic. She was actually interested and really cared about what she wrote about and really poured some emotion into the poem, which really helps make it fantastic, because she can truly express herself (which she did), making the poem amazing (I'm running out of descriptive words for how good it was!). Amazing job Ifrah! Enjoy!
